Skincare conventional

There are conventional skin care products made in South Africa for every taste and pocket. Some are internationally known, like Environ and BioOil, others are only sold in the local market. The table on the right lists the local products I was able to find at the chemist and in supermarkets.

There are also brands with some imported and some local products within the same range, for example from Revlon Pure Skin & New Complexion, Yardley Oatmeal and Johnson & Johnson.

The Clicks' own label skin care products are mostly imported, but you’ll find some local products in their ‘SkinCare Collection’. Clicks own label body cream, camphor cream and aqueous cream are local.

Skincare natural & organic

The choice of great local organic skin care ranges is steadily increasing:

African Organics sells a skin range that uses some organic ingredients but is not certified. They also produce a pricier, but certified organic range under the Esse brand.

The Victorian Garden, which is a partly organic brand, has washes, moisturisers, masks, body butters and more, for both body and face, in different ranges.

Enchantrix has both body cleansers and moisturisers.

Oh-lief offers various body, hand and face moisturising waxes, a heel & toe balm as well as a lip balm.

SOiL sells body lotion and hand lotion.

Naturals Beauty is a partly organic brand that uses local natural ingredients. They have an affordable face as well as a body care range. You can choose between the essentials, teenage or mature skin products.

SoyLites combines skincare, light and aromatherapy. Apart from their soy candles, which can be used on the skin, they also make lip balm, a body bar and body balm range called ladybird.

Ecoco is another natural (although not organic) range that offers both aromatherapy and body care products. Their ‘Natural Therapy’ items are advertised as having 100% local ingredients.

Organic Rooibos is one the ranges from ‘Natural Skincare’. The other is Natraloe. While the Organic Rooibos ingredients are on the Ecocert organic list, Natraloe are natural Aloe Ferox based products. Both brands have a full skin range. Natraloe also has a body range.

Natural skin products made with bee products, bee’s wax, honey and propolis, are back in fashion:

Some of the local brands available are Simply Bee, Bee Natural and Milk & Honey.
